With more than 2 decades of experience travelling and documentary film making in Sub-Saharan Africa and throughout the developing world - Canadian Journalist Rick Castiglione is now using his expertise to guide private safari expeditions into East Africa.
As an experienced journalist/interpreter, Rick will take you to the top game viewing and cultural sites. You’ll stay in luxury lodges as while travelling into the back country and “off the beaten track”  of East and Central Africa - for an experiential journey that you will never forget.
A Cielo Expeditions Safari is a unique opportunity to learn about new cultures, humanitarian work, education projects and, of course, the wildlife of East and Central Africa.

Yoga has been a part of Margits life for many years and she loves sharing her extensive knowledge with those who care to stretch out in a gentle and slow manner.   Margit is a registered yoga teacher specializing in Hatha and Yin style yoga.   Her love of teaching, love of nature, and love of yoga has helped her to formulate a philosophy of finding joy and peace in everyday living.
Yogafrica interweaves yoga into our day in a natural way to add to our experience in the amazing wide open spaces of Africa. Our sessions will be adapted for all body types and experience levels.  
There will be moments of laughter yoga, along with time for meditative silence in my classes.

Day 1 – Nairobi


Arrival in the capital of Kenya.  We will be there to greet you and transfer you to your hotel.

Accommodation:  Fairview Hotel


Day 2 – Nairobi – Baby Elephants and Giraffe Conservancy


We will start the expedition with a Yoga class, amidst the beautiful, manicured grounds of the historic Fairview Hotel.   After breakfast, we’ll proceed to the David Sheldrik Elephant Orphanage, in Nairobi National Park. Orphaned baby elephants from throughout East Africa are brought here to be healed and nurtured and eventually returned to the wild. Visitors to the orphanage are allowed to witness the play and feeding of the babies for one hour each day.  Lunch will be at the Karen Blixen  (Out of Africa) farm restaurant.


Day 3, 4, 5 – Maasai Mara – The Savannah


Following breakfast we will depart Nairobi bound for the famous Maasai Mara - the heart of Kenya’s savannah. We will be staying at a luxury tented camp or Safari Lodge (real beds with down duvets, hot showers, great food!). We will immerse ourselves in yoga and meditation beside the pool.  Over the next 2 days we will take explore the grasslands of the Maasai Mara on game drives. In the wild, you will see lions, rhinos, cheetahs, leopards, herds of elephants, giraffes, zebras and much more – all from the comfort and safety of our custom made safari Land Cruiser – complete with “pop-up roof”.



Day 6, 7  - Maasai Mara to The Loita Plains


Depart camp early morning and drive through the national park and onto the Loita Plains – the Land of the Maasai. to a deluxe, private mobile bush camp in the Maasai community – Ewaso Ngiro.

During our stay in the Ewaso Ngiro area, we will be hosted by David’s ole Nkuito’s community, friends of Ricks. David, a Maasai Warrior and his family will act as our guides and interpreters of their lands teaching us about their amazing culture. We’ll meet the widowed women supported through the Nairoshi Foundation spending a day in one of their villages, talking, sharing stories, making new friends. We’ll also visit the community school, supported by school children and teachers in the MD of Foothills, south of Calgary.


During our stay at the camp (which also has hot showers) we will be enjoying meals prepared by a professional chef, eating around the campfire under the starlit skies. Evening Yoga will take place on top of a hill with a 360 degree view of the savannah. Following dinner we will retire to the furnished domed tents and drift off to sleep listening to the sounds of the African night such as hyena, lions, zebras and the night birds, i.e the owls and nightjars. The camp is fenced and guarded by our Maasai friends all night.

Day 8, 9, 10 – Lake Navaisha – Kongoni Lodge


On the Southwest corner of the Maasai Mara is a fresh water Lake called “Naivasha.  Here we can go on a walking safari on Crescent Island – where much of the movie “Out Of Africa” was filmed.  We can walk and practice yoga as herds of giraffe stroll past the resident wildebeest and zebras.  We’ll stay at the historic Kongoni Lodge and enjoy yoga by the pool, watching hippos wander up from the lake and zebras stop by to graze on the grounds.


Day 11 – Maasai Mara – Nairobi


Depart the camp after breakfast and return to Nairobi driving through the Great Rift Valley.  Transfer to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for flight home or to additional side trips!

Day 1 –  Rwanda - Gorilla Tracking


Morning flight from Nairobi to Kigali – then a 3 hour drive through the mountains to Ruhengeri, Rwanda, checking in at The Gorilla Mountainview Lodge.  Evening Yoga on the manicured lawn overlooking the Sabinyo Volcano (weather permitting). 


DAY 2  -  Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda – Gorilla Trekking


Early breakfast before proceeding to the park head quarters where visitors assemble at 07.00 for a briefing on how to” behave” while in the company of a gorilla group. You will meet your guide here and proceed to the starting point of the trek to our allocated group of gorillas. The length of the trek varies depending on where the gorillas are as well as what the weather conditions are. It is important to bring good hiking boots, long trousers and gloves for protection against stinging nettles, some snacks & sweets as well as sufficient amount of water as the rain forest gets hot and humid during the day. You spend one hour with the gorillas which is a truly amazing experience " before trekking back to the base and return to your lodge / hotel.


An early breakfast before proceeding to the park head quarters for a briefing on how to “behave” while in the company of a gorilla group. You will meet your guide here and proceed to the starting point of the trek to our allocated group of gorillas. The length of the trek varies depending on where the gorillas are as well as what the weather conditions are. Some treks can be 2 hours… some can be 6 – 8 hours , depending on where the gorillas are that day. This is truly an amazing experience that everyone should be able to experience at least once in their lifetime.


On the following day we will have morning Yoga at the lodge, then visit a traditional Rwandan village to learn about the history and culture of the Rwandan people.


Day 3 – Return to Kigali


A city tour, an optional visit to the genocide museum and then head to the airport for our flight home.

** All of our itineraries are tailored to fit the budget and desires of our groups. Costs can range from $550 per person/day to $900 per person/day depending on the time of year (high vs. low season), single vs. double occupancy and the number of participants.  Group sizes range from 6 – 12 people.
