Day 1  – Arrive, Kilimanjaro International Airport, Tanzania (Evening)

  • Transfer to  Lodge – Arusha

         *Bed and Breakfast

 

Day 2 – Arusha

  • Recovery from the long flight and a tour of Tanzania’s second largest city.  A chance to get acclimatized, do some money exchange, visit a coffee plantation or Tanzanite museum.

 

Day 3  –  Arusha to Ngorongoro

  • This morning we embark on our safari into the best wildlife experience that East Africa has to offer, starting in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area

               Accommodations: The Farmhouse - Ngorongoro

Day 4  – Ngorongoro Crater

  • Safari in the worlds largest volcano caldera – rhinos, elephants, lions, wildebeest, hippos etc.

                         Accommodation – The Farmhouse - Ngorongoro

Day 5, 6 – Ngorongoro – Serengeti

  • Enroute – a visit to Maasai Village/Community. The Maasai are one of East Africa’s most famous tribes.  Pastoralists, they have roamed the Serengeti Plains for hundreds of years and most still live a traditional lifestyle as herders – surviving on a diet primarily made up of blood, milk and goat meat.

  • Game drive through the eastern Serengeti Plains to a safari lodge in the middle of it all!

                 Accommodations – Tanzania Bush Tented Camp – full board (2 nights)

Day 7 – Safari in Serengeti National Park

  • Big Game - The Serengeti is the most renowned wildlife park in the entire world. Over 10,000 sq miles of pristine wilderness play host to the Great Migration and boast the highest density of large predators, including lions, leopards and cheetahs, in the world! Hippos, rhinos, gazelle, giraffe, elephants and large herds of zebra’s graze of the Serengeti Plains. Woodlands, hills, and rivers abound in the Seronera region. The variety and abundance of wildlife here is unmatched anywhere else in Africa.

             Accommodations – Seronera  Wildlife Lodge  -Full Board  (2 nights)

Day 8 - Serengeti – Karatu

  • Game drive through Serengeti Plains, with an optional stop at Oldupai Gorge.

       Oldupai is the site of the discovery of 1.9 million yearold hominid remains, Discovered by the Leakey family, the area has become          known as the “Cradle of Mankind”

            Accommodation – Bougainvillea Lodge (full board)                   

                          

Day 9 – Depart Karatu for Kilimanjaro and on to Kigali, Rwanda

  • Rwandair Flight

      Overnight – Kigali

           Accommodations – Lemigo Hotel or similar (Breakfast)

Day 11 – Gorilla Tracking – Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.

  • In the jungles/rainforest, made famous by Dian Fossey and her efforts to save the endangered mountain gorilla, you will take part in a trek to have a close encounter with a gorilla troupe. The Mountain Gorillas only exist in this particular volcanic mountain range and there are a limited number of permits issued each day to visit them.

                          Accommodations – Nkuringo Bwindi Gorilla Lodge

 

Day 13 – Bwindi to Queen Elizabeth National Park

  • Mweya Safari Lodge. Located on a peninsula within the heart of the Queen Elizabeth National Park overlooks the channel that connects Lake Edward and Lake George.

       7 hour drive – l (optional: Late afternoon water safari boat cruise)

               Accommodations  - Mweya Safari Lodge or similar

 

Day 14 – Chimpanzee Tracking – Kibale National Park

  • Afternoon Chimp tracking. Kibale Rainforest is home 13 different species of primates, numerous other mammals, reptiles, butterflies and birds. Primate Lodge is tucked deep in the forest and right next door to the starting point for Chimpanzee Tracking.

            Accommodations – Primate Lodge, Kibale (full board)

Day 15 – Kibale to Entebbe

  • Today you’ll fly from Kibale Rainforest to Entebbe 

              Accommodations:  Boma Guest House or similar (breakfast)

ZANZIBAR

 

Day 16 – Fly from Entebbe to Zanzibar – Stonetown

  • Relax in the afternoon, on the beach beside the hotel.  An Arabic style dinner at a local restaurant. 

     Accommodations: Tembo House Hotel(Bed and breakfast)

 

Day 17 - Stonetown

  • A boat ride to prison Island (20 minutes) to see the great tortoise preserve.  After lunch, a guided walking tour through ancient Stonetown.

      Accommodations – Tembo House Hotel

Day 18 -  Matemwe Beach

  • A 1.5 hour drive across the Island and north to Mtemwe Beach.  It’s a beautiful white sand beach community with true Swahili culture. The lodge has a dozen beautiful rooms in small bandas and an outdoor restaurant.

               Accommodations:  Villa Kiva or similar (full board)

 

Day 19 – Matemwe Beach

  • Snorkling (or diving) off the coast.

                        Accommodations – Villa Kiva or similar

 

Day 20 - Matemwe Beach

  • Beach, community visit, tour a spice plantation. (or just sleep by the pool)

                        Accommodations – Villa Kiva or similar

 

Day 20 – Depart Zanzibar for home – connecting through Dar es Salaam or Nairobi.

OPTION 2

Day 16 - Entebbe - Chole Island - via Dar es Salaam and Mafia Island

 -     An amazing little island along the coast of Tanzania.   Jungle Tree House accommodation.

                      Accommodations: Chole Mjini (full board)

Day 17 – Chole Island

  • Scuba, snorkelling, turtle hatching (when in season), whale sharks (when in the neighbourhood – they migrate through November – January)

            Accommodations: Chole Mjini (full board)

Day 18 -  Chole Island

  • Scuba, snorkelling, turtle hatching (when in season), whale sharks (when in the neighbourhood – they migrate through November – January)

      Accommodations: Chole Mjini (full board)

 

Day 19 – Chole Island – Dar es Salaam –

  • Late evening departure for Canada

                       

 

Day 20 – Depart Chole Island for home – connecting through Dar es Salaam or Nairobi.
