"Calgary To Quito"

"Calgary To Quito" was broadcast on CFCN (CTV Alberta) and on Bell ExpressVu Satellite
on October 11th, 2004  The documentary examined the introduction of "water purifying
technology" into rural Ecuador and other remote areas of the developing world.

In much of the world, children do not have access to a safe supply of drinking water.
The Bio-sand Water Filter, which purifies drinking water, on site, was invented by Dr. David
Manz of Calgary. This simple, concrete device is changing the lives of millions of people.

"Canada Jan"

"For The Love Of Children"

    The Himalayas, Nepal
They are the most imposing mountain peaks and passes in the world. Everest, the highest,
has claimed the lives of many daring mountain climbers. The treacherous mountain passes
that connect Nepal with Tibet have claimed the lives of many children.
Tibetan children walk for days and weeks trying to get to Nepal and eventually to India and
The Dalai Lama. Those that survive the treacherous journey often end up on the streets of
Kathmandu where they congregate with Nepali children that are also homeless, hungry, and
    disheartened.

On a hillside west of the Capital some of these children have found refuge in the care of a
local Lama and a hostel built by supporters of the "For The Love Of Children Society of
Alberta" Here they are fed and given an education. Their Nepali and Tibetan culture is
nurtured. The Calgary based Society is financially supporting the centre and the daily

    Blind In Bombay.....
Her name is Preeti. She was born somewhere in the slums of Bombay, without eyes and
without a nose. At the age of six her parents abandoned her.
Missionaries, working in this city of 20 million people, found Preeti. They also found money
to pay for the seven operations needed construct something that would resemble a human
face. The fact that she survived was remarkable, the fact that she can now read Braille and
play with her friends at the Bombay School for Blind girls is a miracle.

The 130 girls living at the school are learning how to survive in a world where it is difficult
even for the most able bodied of individuals. Here they laugh and learn. They are taught how
to take care of themselves. They are prepared for graduation, which includes having the
confidence to go out into the world and lead productive lives.

"For The Love Of Children" was broadcast in 2002.

A Heart For Ukraine

A Heart For Ukraine is the story of one man's journey back to the land that his father and
grandfather left behind in search of a better life in Canada.   Lloyd Cenaiko's search for
connections with his past led to a life-changing decision that has had a dramatic and positive
impact on the lives of the people of Western Ukraine.

In 1996 Cenaiko founded a Christian charity called
Humanitarian Aid Response Teams.  A Heart for
Ukraine
documents HART's work and tells the stories of children that have been saved from a life
on the streets, men who've been helped in Ukraine's notorious prisons and on babies who've found
love through a special "baby hugging" program. In total... more than 200 programs and
partnerships are helping to change lives "one heart at a time".

"A Heart For Ukraine" was  broadcast on CTV Alberta.
Amanecer
A New Dawn for the Children of the Andes

...is the story of Kathleen Gleeson of Calgary.  Kathleen is a mother, retired school teacher and
one of the most committed and compassionate humanitarians I have ever met.  As a young
woman, Kathleen dedicated her life to helping women and children here in Canada and, during
retirement, in Bolivia.  She has helped nurture babies in an orphanage in Cochabamba, Bolivia –
helped impoverished women in the Andes to earn money and self-reliance through the Minkha
Knitters Cooperative and has assisted Bolivian adolescents to become empowered leaders in
their rural communities.

For almost 20 years, Kathleen has commuted between Calgary and Cochabamba helping, raising
money and inspiring other Canadian women to join her. Along the way she has battled cancer
and fought with aging bones that make it difficult, at times, to even walk.  This year I was
honored to be able to travel with Kathleen to Bolivia on what may, unfortunately, have to be her
last trip to Bolivia.  Reluctantly, Kathleen agreed to let me tell her story.  I convinced her to
appear on camera, only with the promise that her story would inspire other, younger women to
“pick up where she may have to leave off”.
